This lecture focuses on the urgent challenge of aligning climate science, infrastructure development, and public policy to achieve a just and effective energy transition. Professor Daniel M. Kammen will discuss why limiting global warming to 1.5°C requires not only rapid technological progress, but also coordinated ไdecisions in energy, transportation, and land-use systems. The talk highlights modeling tools and policy pathways that demonstrate how low-carbon infrastructure can support economic development while advancing social and environmental justice. Emphasis is placed on the role of engineers and planners in shaping large-scale infrastructure choices, as well as the consequences of delayed action at local, national, and global levels. Current policy debates, including carbon pricing, Green New Deal–style  works, and environmental justice considerations, are examined as critical opportunities for meaningful climate action.
